The kitchen has been the single most requested renovation on our books for the last five years, and in 2025 the conversation with luxury clients across Los Angeles has settled into a clear set of preferences. Here's what our team at New Horizon Development is building in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Pacific Palisades, and Malibu right now.
1. The scullery is not optional
Every luxury renovation we've completed in the last 18 months has included a scullery — a working back kitchen with a second dishwasher, a second sink, a coffee program, and often a second range. The front kitchen has become an entertaining stage; the scullery is where the actual cooking happens.
2. The range is a statement
La Cornue, Lacanche, Molteni, and BlueStar dominate our specifications. The Wolf 60" is still the sensible pick, but the client who wants a statement is choosing a hand-built range in a custom color.
3. Islands are single slabs
Book-matched Calacatta Viola, leathered Taj Mahal, and Cristallo quartzite are the three finishes we've specified most often this year. The client is at the yard picking the block; the fabricator is templating on-site.
4. Unlacquered brass and cold-rolled steel
Polished chrome is essentially dead in luxury LA kitchens. Unlacquered brass on plumbing fixtures, blackened bronze or cold-rolled steel on hardware, and hand-forged pulls from small US shops are what our clients want on the cabinets.
5. Ventilation is finally taken seriously
A serious kitchen needs serious ventilation. We're specifying 1200–1500 CFM hood systems with dedicated make-up air, and we build the make-up air path into the framing package from day one.
